7 Uses of Grapefruit Oil

7/6/2017

The grapefruit was first documented in 1750 by Reverend Griffith Hughes. Tart and tangy with a little bit of sweetness, grapefruit was a cross between a pomelo and an orange. Grapefruits were given their name because of the way they grew in clusters, similar to grapes. Grapefruit oil has been used for centuries to help support a healthy inflammation response and a  healthy weight, as well as to combat sugar cravings. To make one 15ml bottle of grapefruit oil, the peel of 50 grapefruits is cold pressed. That is a lot of grapefruit! The oil is very concentrated and is the reason why just a few drops are so beneficial for your health. It can be used aromatically, topically, and internally. Grapefruit oil is one of my favorite oils. I add it to my water for a refreshing drink. It is so tasty that I end up drinking more water throughout the day. How awesome is that!

1. Food Cravings
Grapefruit oil is known to lower sugar cravings and help kick sugar addiction when inhaled. Rub it onto the wrists, neck or chest or place a few drops in the palms of your hands, cup the hands over the nose and mouth, and inhale it to stave off cravings. You can also put 3 drops of grapefruit oil in a diffuser to help reduce sugar cravings.
2. Healthy Weight Management
Not only will grapefruit oil reduce sugar cravings, but it also supports healthy metabolism and may reduce appetite. Add 2 drops to water or massage the oil onto the chest and wrists when a craving strikes.
3. Lymphatic Health
Grapefruit oil is an excellent natural diuretic and lymphatic stimulant. It can help eliminate toxins and excess salt from the body. Add 2 drops to water and take internally or apply it topically over the kidneys.
4. Reduce appearance of cellulite
As mentioned above, grapefruit oil is a lymphatic stimulant. Since cellulite is stagnant lymphatic tissue, it can help reduce cellulite. Combine 2 drops with Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) and rub directly over the areas of cellulite.

5. Digestive Health and Detoxification
By increasing blood to the digestive organs, grapefruit oil helps with detoxification and has a positive effect on digestion. Mix 2 drops of grapefruit oil with Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) and massage over the abdomen.
6. Adrenal Support
Apply 1 drop of Grapefruit and 1 drop of Basil with FCO and rub over the adrenals or on the soles of your feet to support the adrenals.
7. Air Freshener
To get rid of unpleasant odors, diffuse grapefruit oil with other citrus oils like lemon and lime oils to freshen the air...and reduce stress.
